Wishful Wednesday

'I wish' .... I could re-live one Easter memory from my childhood, and it would be the Easter that ______!

I am going to say any of the Easter's that we went to Santa Cruz to visit our extended family. We have a lot of family that lives in Santa Cruz and it was tradition to spend Easter with all of them.

Since we have grown a bit older and have new families to include and busier schedules than ever, it hasn't worked out that we go down there the past couple of years, but we will get back on track and make it tradition again. I love my family, we have so much fun together.

It saddens me that there are some members of the family that have passed away and it really hits me when the holidays are around since we have always been so close with our family. I am just happy that I do have great memories to look back on!

Weekend Review

Without further ado, let's discuss my weekend. It was pretty busy, but very enjoyable!!

Friday night started off a little disappointing with St. Mary's losing to Baylor. However, we are still proud of how far they went and it was very exciting while it lasted. Later in the evening I had dinner with my mom and then ran a few errands.

Saturday morning I went to my grandpa's house to spend a few hours with him.

This is a typical morning for him, sitting in his chair watching TV, drinking coffee and spending time with his cat.

I returned from my grandpa's to find the boys bbqing and playing video games. They have entered in a rib cook off and wanted to get in some good practice before the competition next weekend.

Saturday evening/night was girls night in Sacramento. A few of us girls got together for dinner and games and had a great time catching up.

Sunday morning, the boys (minus one) were at it again. This time they are wearing the shirts they made for the competition. I was able to try the ribs and they turned out fantastic.

Sunday night was spent in San Francisco at our friend's wedding.

Look at the view from the reception room. Such a beautiful day!!
We had a great time and was glad we got to be a part of their special day.

An action shot of Mr. Pickle dancing with the bride.

Overall a great weekend, although as I mentioned yesterday, Sunday weddings lead to very rough Monday mornings.

Oh so sleepy

Weekend review will be delayed this week.

Mr. Pickle and I attending a wedding last night and although he got to stay home and sleep in this morning, I had to fight with my alarm to let me stay in bed as long as possible before I had to rush out the door for work. My brain is a little slow functioning to say the least!!

Pretty much what I feel like doing at work today.

The wedding was good times though, but more on that later.

Hope everyone is having a Happy Monday.

Let's Go Gaels

Happy Friday all!!!!

Now as most of you can tell, I am not a huge sports fan. Very rarely will you see me post about sports on this here pink blog. Today however, is an exception.

Today is a big day for our local St. Mary's Gaels. Their basketball team goes up against the Baylor Bears this afternoon in Texas in the Sweet Sixteen.

This game is big for obvious reasons, St. Mary's is being called the "Cinderella" team, Mr. Pickle is a St. Mary's alum and my family has been close to one of the player's family for some time. It is great to see him and his family get so much positive recognition as they all deserve it.

Today may be one of those days I am happy I work right upstairs from a bar (remind me of this the next morning I can't park in my parking spot because someone over consumed the night before and barfed in the parking lot) as I plan to make my way downstairs in time for the 4:30 tip off!! I am ready wearing navy blue and red!!

Let's Go Gaels!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do I dare say it?

Let me let you in on a little secret of mine. I have had a girl crush on LC (Lauren Conrad for those of you living under a rock) since the Laguna Beach days. Okay so being that my girl crush has been going strong since 2004, I guess it could now be considered an obsession. However, that makes me sound creepy and I'm not...so girl crush it is.

Anywho, I have been hearing great things about her clothing line that is sold at Kohl's. I figured I would go give it a looksie even though I am poor and have no cash flow to spend on clothes. But, what else was I going to do for the half-hour I had to kill before I had to pick up Mr. Pickle from BART which is so conveniently located right down the street from Kohl's.

My first visit to Kohl's and first experience with the Lauren Conrad collection was not what I was expecting. First of all, everything in the store was pretty well organized and there were sales associates available to assist you.

Side Note: I hate going to some department stores (which shall remain nameless) only to have an arm full of clothes and not be able to grab a tank off the rack because the straps from the surrounding tanks and those stupid hanger straps are all caught up in the hanger of the one shirt you are trying to pull from the rack AND to top it all off, there is no one around who is willing and able to help you get the shirt or offer to take your items to a dressing room so you can continue to shop. I know, I have obviously spent way too much time shopping at Nordys. Okay, rant over.

Once I found the Lauren Conrad collection, I was pleasantly surprised that there were some great options to choose from. I was expecting items that would satisfy a tween's fashion sense and sizing that was fit for little people (which obviously I am not). I found several items that seemed to be cute but not young cute and a good combination of playful and mature. In addition, I was able to find my size and when I got to the fitting room was definitely surprised that the fit was true to size (IE. Large is actually a Large, not a Forever 21 Large that would fit someone that is normally a small). It looked like I had just gone through Lauren's closet and was trying on some of her clothes :)

Although I was unable to purchase anything, ran out of time before Mr. Pickle called and said he arrived and was waiting for me and the line was loooong and I have no money as previously mentioned, I will definitely be visiting Kohl's again to get me some fits.
Are you familiar with the collection? What are your thoughts?

These are just my honest opinions, I wasn't compensated in any way for posting my opinions.

I'd Rather Be...

You know those license plate holders that say, "I'd rather be..."? Well I recently saw one that said "I'd rather be quilting at the beach house" It made me think what I would rather be doing, besides sitting at work, so I came up with my own options for my license plate holder.

here

I'd rather be....

Relaxing on the beach (in Hawaii perhaps)

Laying out by the pool

Wine tasting in Napa or Sonoma (I don't discriminate)

Riding my bike

Shopping with my sister

Lunching with my mom

Visiting with friends

On vacation

Getting a mani/pedi

Sleeping

Snuggling with Mr. Pickle

Walking my dog

Meeting my friend's new baby girl (Congrats Big Sis!!)

Exploring new cities

Boating on the lake

Camping with friends

What would yours say?

Wishful Wednesday

'I wish' .... I could afford this ______ handbag without putting a dent in my pocketbook!

I have always wanted a Louis Vuitton, but can't seem to find an extra couple thousand dollars laying around that isn't needed for something more responsible like getting my car serviced or investing it in our house. But if any one is interested in surprising me, I really like this one...
here

Although I would never be able to list all the handbags I drool over, here is a little list of some others I wouldn't deny.
Be&D Garbo Petite

Jimmy Choo - Ramona

Jimmy Choo - Bree

Random Thoughts

- Isn't it funny that we think it is so nice and warm outside and we are in tank tops and filp flops, but when it is summer and it is 70 degrees out we think it is freezing and we are all bundled up.

- I love how the green the hills are right now, I especially love it when all you can see is green hills and blue skies. Too bad it takes MONTHS of rain to make the hills so green and only a few weeks of sunshine to make the hills start to turn brown.

- Is there really such a thing as too much sleep? Is it possible that I am so tired because I have been sleeping so much? I have heard people say this before, but I just don't think I believe it.

- How is it that I am so interested in fashion, yet don't have the creativity to dress myself in anything other than jeans and a black top every day?

- Why do I have so many dream jobs, but am working in a totally different field than any of those 'dream jobs'.

- I love how loyal and caring my friends and family is. I couldn't pick a better group of people to surround myself with. I just wish we got to see each other every day like we used to. Ahhhh, to be young again.

- Speaking of which, who came up with 5 day work weeks and a standard of two weeks vacation? I would like to punch that person in the belly. Life is so much better with 3 day weekends and looking forward to taking vacations without having to worry about missing work (ie. getting paid).

- Ain't it funny that when we are young, we push our body to the max with all the sports and playing we do, but as we get older and take better care of our bodies, we get sore from small things like jumping rope (have you tried this lately, it is a workout, no wonder I was skinny when I was a kid).

- Every year I have been saying I want to do this or learn how to do that, I feel like now that I am closing in on the last year of my twenties I need to get to steppin' because my bucket list isn't getting any smaller (especially at this rate).

- Shoes and nail polish is my latest addiction.

Okay, if you are still reading at this point, you should get a blogger gold star!!

Done rambling.

Weekend Review

Since I have been sick since Wednesday, there isn't too much to report.

I didn't go to work on Friday and stayed in bed for most of the day, with the exception of a mani/pedi to try to make me feel better.

Saturday Mr. Pickle and I went to Modesto to visit his grandma in the hospital. From there we headed to San Jose to visit our friends and celebrate a birthday.

Sunday we slept in and hung out at home while my sister and her boyfriend came to visit.

Pretty uneventful weekend and I am still exhausted. This cold really takes all your energy away!!

Hope to be back to normal soon :)

Wishful Wednesday

'I wish' .... I could win the lottery REAL soon, and I would hope to ________.

**The real question is would you
1.) quit your job/career
2.) continue working

I think I would quit my job and travel the world!! Unless of course, I had a job that paid me to do this!

Oh Happy Days

Being that Spring & Summer are my two favoritist (yes, I know this isn't correct) seasons, I thought I would share with you some ways I will be spending the longer and warmer days.

- Taking the doggies for walks

My doggie Puka (Satch is scared of the camera)

- Riding my pink bike

- Driving to unknown destinations with the windows and sunroof open
- Wearing flip flops 24/7
- Shopping -- For some reason shopping is just better when it is nice outside. Maybe it is all the colorful clothes that are in the stores...that and because we have a few outdoor shopping malls that aren't fun to visit when it is rainy and gloomy.

- BBQ -- I don't actually BBQ, but I sure do enjoy when other people do for me :)

- Trips to the lake
Picture taken by my sister - Marcie Franich Photography

- Picnics outside

- Relaxing at a park -- I love taking a blanket and a magazine or a book and just soaking up the sunshine and some fresh air.
- Vacations -- I hope to take a few small vacations in the near future. I would love to take a big trip, but I don't know if that is going to be possible financially.

- Wine Tasting -- We go to Napa, Livermore and Sonoma A LOT when the weather is nice.

- Motorcycle Rides -- Mr. Pickle has his motorcycle license and his parents also ride. Unfortunately we don't have a bike yet so we have to rent one. Some day!!

- Hanging out by the pool

- Hiking -- I am not a big hiker, but would love to go on a few hikes this year

- Getting Pedicures

- Going to the beach

- Baseball games

***For some reason Blogger will not let me upload any pics right now :( I'll add the rest later***
EDITED - Added missing pics :)

What are you looking forward to doing?

Weekend Review

I didn't have too much planned for the weekend, which was a nice change of pace. I guess it worked out for the best that I didn't have much to do because my grandpa fell on Friday afternoon and had to go to the ER. He dislocated two of his fingers and had some deep abrasions on the injured fingers which resulted in some torn ligaments. I was contacted shortly after I got off work and Mr. Pickle and I met him at another ER that he had to be transferred to.

We (my sister, my sister's boyfriend and I) were up until about 4:00 am waiting for answers from the doctor and was told that he needed surgery and was going to be admitted to the hospital. Once we knew he was staying we finally headed home. All I wanted to do was sleep all day, but he went into surgery early in the morning and was back in his room by early afternoon. I didn't want him to be alone, so I spent all afternoon with him at the hospital.

Saturday night I got to enjoy the evening with my bestie. We went out to dinner and then to a nearby bar. Needless to say I only made it til about midnight before I was tipsy and ready for bed. That hour we lost sure was needed. Oh well, I love having it light later.

My grandpa was supposed to get out of the hospital Sunday afternoon, but after a lot of back and forth between the patient, doctor and social worker, he had to stay one more night. I went to visit with him and he was really unhappy about not being able to leave, poor gramps. It is really hard for him to understand that he is not able to care for himself 100% any more in his old age.

He got released this morning and is doing much better and even allowed a care taker to come stay with him for a day or two.

I'm glad I got to be there for my grandpa!! It breaks my heart that he is getting older and unstable.

How was your weekend? Is everyone loving the beautiful weather we are having (at least in Cali)??

I really did like my dress (pics to come soon). However, if I had the body for this dress and was going more formal than we did for our beach wedding, I would have totally gone for something like this.

Good Night Moon

So a few of you noticed on my previous post that I mentioned Mr. Pickle and I sleep in separate beds. It is true, more often than not we do not sleep together.

Mr. Pickle and I have been together for almost ten years *gasp* (I refuse to believe I am that old!!). It wasn't until recently we found that we were not sleeping as well as we used to and it was seriously affecting us. It used to be that we would start off sleeping together but majority of the times him or I would get up in the middle of the night to sleep in the guest bedroom.

Although I wouldn't call myself a light sleeper, if I do get woken up, it usually takes me a while to fall back asleep. Plus, I have an extremely hard time falling asleep in silence, therefore I have this bad habit of falling asleep with the TV on (thanks mom). Mr. Pickle on the other hand is a very light sleeper and has a hard time falling asleep if it is not silent. In the past this hasn't been a problem because I was usually the one to fall asleep first at which point he would turn off the TV to fall asleep.

Recently however, it wasn't only about the TV, he would have a hard time falling asleep and then toss and turn all night and get out of bed a few times a night. Numerous times he would end up waking me up and it would take forever for me to fall asleep again. It just sort of ended up that we would rather get a good nights sleep then not, so it slowly started becoming common that I would sleep in the guest room (in my bed from before I moved in with Mr. Pickle) and he would sleep in our room.

I know it does sound a little crazy, but I swear, for us it totally works. We wake up easier and in better moods and we are able to enjoy each other better because we are not cranky from lack of sleep. We spend time together in the morning by carpooling and after work by having dinner together and watching TV, playing games, running errands and/or hanging out after dinner. I usually do not go to my room to go to bed until I am about to fall asleep.

I have read/heard of this becoming more and more common and have seen study results proving that sleeping apart makes for a better relationship since lack of sleep effects you physically, emotionally and mentally.

It isn't going to work for everyone, but for now it is working for us!!!

So there you have it, I sleep in my Queen and Mr. Pickle sleeps in the King. Puka (our dog) switches on and off with who he sleeps with since he will only sleep in the bed and Satchmo (our other dog) sleeps in our room with Mr. Pickle on his bed on the floor.

PS. Typically we sleep together on the weekends.
