Belated Thanks

Hope everyone had a wonderful Turkey Day!!

Sorry I have been MIA, I was in Montana visiting family for the week and didn't want all of those on the interweb to know my house was sitting empty (not that anyone really cares).

Anywho, I thought it is never too late to express what I am thankful for, so here is a quick list of some things I was giving thanks for last Thursday:

- My doggies
- Mr. Pickle
- My loving family (immediate and extended)
- Having such wonderful friends (near and far)
- Having a job
- Being able to afford the necessities
- Having a roof over our heads
- Living in California (did I mention it was around 0* most days in Montana - BRRRRR)
- The people who truly care about me and help me get through life's struggles
- My health (although not stellar, nothing too major that I can't get through *knock on wood*)
- When I get time to focus on ME

These are just a few items. I feel very blessed when I think of all the wonderful things I have to be thankful for.

Trip recap to come soon.

30 by 30 Thursday

I have taken a minor break from running due to jacked up knees. I am now doing the elliptical for at least 30 minutes a day. I hope that as I lose weight running will be less stressful on my knees (I have had problems for a few years now).

I am happy to say that Mr. Pickle has now joined me in working out. He joined a gym close to his office and has been going on his lunch break. Now if we can both just tackle the food portion...

Making meals is a huge struggle for me being that I hate to cook, nor am I good at it. Plus, time is always limited. To make things even more difficult, nothing sounds good to me. I have been having a hard time eating breakfast because I can't find something quick that sounds good. I eventually figure something out since eating breakfast is extremely important (plus I have to take meds with food or else I feel sick).

What are some quick meals that you whip up when you don't have too much time?

I have come to realize...

Rainbow over Lake Tahoe - Photo by my sis

- That 30 isn't as old as it sounded 10 years ago (although I am still freaking out about approaching that age in June)

- Being adult has it's fun moments, but I really miss being a "kid" again (especially a big kid in college, those were the days)

- I have many BFFs and I love them all for different reasons

- My parents worked very hard to provide for my sister and I (and they made it look easy)

- I am not going to retire any time soon like I would have hoped I could (darn)

- My expectations are not always the same as others

- Putting 100% into a friendship that isn't worth it, takes away from the ones that are

- I am nowhere near where I thought I would be in my life at this age and am slowly starting to accept it

- I love my doggie more than I ever thought possible

- Losing weight is no easy task, but is very rewarding

- Life will always be a work in progress. Even when you think you have everything under control, you will be thrown a curve ball.

- Sometimes going through hard times ends in becoming a happier person

- I need to focus less on the past and more on the present

- Some habits are easier to break than others

- A night out dancing with the girls is almost as fun as a night in with the girls (and the tootsies don't suffer as much)

- My hubby loves me more than I could ever imagine

Weekend Review

There wasn't much to my weekend besides discussing some items with Mr. Pickle, spending time with my grandpa, resting (trying to get rid of a horrible migraine) and helping my sister with some photo shoots.

My sis got these adorable pics of my dog yesterday when we were done for the day. (Stolen from her Facebook Fan Page.)
Too cute!!
How was your weekend?

30 by 30 Thursday

I am starting to get frustrated with this whole working out thing!! I have been working out diligently for the past several months and try to eat good (but obviously need to try harder). I just don't feel like I am looking much better. I will continue to keep up the exercising and am determined to find a better eating plan.

What do you do when you get frustrated?

So it looks like Weekend Reviews on Wednesday are becoming the norm!!

This past weekend we celebrated my friend's (and Big Sis in sorority) 30th birthday in South Lake Tahoe. We plotted against her and surprised her with a HUGE cabin (equipped with an indoor pool, spa, movie theatre room and pool table) in South Lake and 18 of her closest friends and family. She was surprised and we all had a great weekend.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I didn't get too many pictures of the weekend. Don't let that fact fool you, we had a blast!!

Friday night Mr. Pickle and I arrived at the cabin around 6:00. There were already about half the people at the cabin, so the party had already begun. After everyone had arrived, my friend's husband arranged for a catered dinner.

Birthday Girl

Once everyone's tummy's were full, the men decided to get a game of poker started while the girls went swimming in the pool. I decided I would put my feet in instead of getting all the way in, but as you can see below, that didn't work out as planned (the birthday girl got me in with my clothes on).

In the pool

Most of the boys decided to head to the casinos while we kept the party going in the pool. Then at 1:30 we got the bright idea to head to the casinos also!!

Us straight from the pool to the casinos

After some clubbing and gambling, we got home around 4:00 and headed to bed.

Saturday morning once everyone woke up, Mr. Pickle made breakfast. The day was a kick back day to recover from the night before and prepare for the upcoming night. Some went hiking, others went biking, a few even went to get a massage. I just hung around the house and took a two hour nap (I had a HUGE migraine).

Saturday night we went out to dinner and then headed to the casinos.

Saturday night ended earlier for Mr. Pickle and I than some of the others. Since I am not a big gambler, we left the casinos around 12:30. Mr. Pickle said when he woke up at 4:00 the party was still going!! We obviously can't hang like we used to.
Sunday morning we woke up early and headed home. While it was only raining when we left, we ended up running into snow!!

So pretty!!!!
We got home safe and even had a few hours to lounge around next to the fire and get some chores done.
A great weekend with some great friends!

Slacker

Since it has been busy around these parts, here is another Wednesday Weekend Review.
Friday after work Mr. Pickle and I went out to dinner and came home to carve our pumpkins. Too bad one of the pumpkins was already rotten, so we ended up both contributing to the carving of one pumpkin.
Pay no attention to the lazy dogs!!
The finished product.
A pumpkin and a spider.
The cutest spider I have ever seen.

Saturday we headed to Modesto to visit some friends and family. We spent some time with our niece before she went down for a nap, took a friend an early birthday gift, visited another friend and finally met their baby girl and celebrated a 30th birthday. Unfortunately the only picture I got of the day was the birthday celebration.
We had dinner at Surla. We all really enjoyed to food as well as the company.
Sunday Mr. Pickle and I headed to Napa. We stopped in Vallejo for breakfast, hit up some stores at the Napa Outlets and went wine tasting at St. Supery and Bell.
We have been members at Bell for years and were sad to hear that one of our favorite workers was working his last day before moving forward with another business opportunity. We spent a few hours hanging out with him and the person who is taking over for him. We were happy to spend his last day with him and wish him all the luck moving forward.
Sunday night was spent watching the Giants game and passing out candy to all the kiddies in the neighborhood.

Let's Hear It For The Boys

Last night our SF Giant won the World Series!!!! So exciting!

The following are some pics my sister took while joining the masses in celebrating in San Francisco last night.

Wish I was there to celebrate, looks like it was a wild time.

Way to go Giants!!

I Voted!!

I did my homework and informed myself with everything I needed to to vote and made it to the polls at 7:59 (they close at 8:00), they shut the door behind me.
